Meditate on Psalm 23 with "Shepherd" by Willamette Music

This month marks five years since the release of Shepherd by Willamette Music, a song of reassurance based on Psalm 23. Shepherd offers comfort in God’s presence and provision. From its opening lines — “The Lord is my shepherd; He brings me to pastures of His grace”— the song paints a picture of God’s tender care both in stillness and in struggle. The verses move from gratitude for God’s blessings to declaration of protection: “No harm or disaster could conquer my heart; you are enough.”

Built around a powerful pre-chorus that trades fear for the armor of God, and a soaring chorus that proclaims God’s unfailing goodness and mercy for all of life, Shepherd becomes a refuge for the humble. The bridge confesses the heart of the difficult but triumphant Christian life: “When I’m lost in the shadow, when I’m caught in the battle, I will not fear.” Five years later, Shepherd remains a reliable and inviting song for congregations. It’s a faithful reminder that God walks with us, even in the darkest places, and that His nearness is enough.
