Remembering "The Face of God" by Concord Worship
Released 13 years ago in September, The Face of God by Concord Worship is an album that draws our eyes to Christ revealed in the least of these. The artwork with smiling children reminds of Jesus’ words that whoever receives a child in His name receives Him, and that in serving the vulnerable we serve Christ Himself. The title track captures this calling with lyrics that remind us: “The face of God is in a lonely child… not in the great and mighty, or the wise, but in the simple hope that lights a child’s eyes". This truth leads into a prayer: “Let my heart bleed for the least of these / Let my soul cry for their broken lives.”
Alongside powerful songs of praise and adoration for who God is, the album also highlights the precious truth that all believers are God’s children. The song Abba Father says, “You’re my Abba Father / You’re the One to whom I run, always there with open arms," The song Give Away calls us to Christlike compassion: “For what peace, what grace, what love You give to us / Help us to give away.” Together, these songs continue to invite worshippers into adoration, identity, and mission, pointing us to see and love God in the faces of all His children.
Abba Father
You’re my Abba Father
You’re the One to whom I run
Always there with open arms
No matter what I’ve done
You’re my Abba Father
You’re the One who ran to me
Moving heaven and earth to come and rescue me
Give Away
O holy Father
For what peace, what grace
What love You give to us
Help us to give away
Help us to give away
